One Wire Alternator

So I was tightening up the belt on my alternator and had to take the wire off of it. I forgot to put it back on when I started it up. Several wires were smoking and almost started a fire. What the heck? 12 volt system.

always expect smoke & fire when I try to discharge a battery, capable of several hundred amperes, thru a 10 or 12 gauge wire, and you should too.

That one big wire is a hot wire direct to the non-grounded (assume ''+'') battery side of the starter solenoid. The ring terminal on the
alternator end of that loose wire must have touched some metal and ''grounded out'', giving you a direct path to the grounded side (''-'') of
the battery.

Some of your other, smaller gauge wires, just minding their own business and carrying current to other places within the electrical system
didnt appreciate that!

Can you post that picture of a Delco 10SI 1-Wire ALT you did with the wiring? I can't find it. I have the 3-Wire unit picture.

im, for 1-wire 10-SI, just eliminate the wire & diode highlighted in green and the Output stud to terminal #2 jumper.
