1941 9n flywheel teeth

The bendix on my starter exploded a
couple days ago so while I've been
fishing teeth out of bell housing with a
flexible magnet I noticed the teeth on my
flywheel are not straight across the
entire width of the flywheel. At first I
thought I had broken a few but after
using my lights and mirrors I can see
there all kind of beveled/angled for
lack of a better word, on the side
closest to the transmisdion. This makes
me think it is supposed to be made this
way but looking at flywheels online they
do not look like this one so I was just
curious if anyone else has had this
issue.

I attached a photo, not a very good one because I haven't cleaned the flywheel any so it looks much worse than it is I think. Thanks fir any help,

Eric

That needs to be replaced.

OEM ring gear teeth are beveled on the engagement (transmission) side. Many (most/all?) aftermarket ring gears do not have beveled teeth.

Do yourself a favor and buy a (made in Italy) ring gear from CNH. It will cost about $20 more but it will have beveled teeth.

Do yourself another favor and convert the starter to 12V or the battery to 6V to reduce shock loading in the future.

Thanks I will swap it out when I tear the tractor down this fall/winter for paint, brakes and few new seals. Sorry to ask but what does cnh stand for? Or do you or anyone else know where I can buy that flywheel?

I converted my tractor over to 12v battery, 12v starter and 12v electronic ignition but I will say it started quicker and easier with the old 6v and points. Thanks again for the help.

cnh = Case/New Holland

they own what is left of ford's tractor business, i believe.

If you are close to NJ 07838 I probably have extra flywheels with hood ring gears on them. Will give you one. Email is open

Thanks for the offer but I'm in ky. I'll get one ordered off case new holland and get a new one on asap. Thank you all for the info!
