8N RPM Problem

Have a 1950 8N side mount distributor Ford tractor that when I increase the lever on the throttle quadrant one
notch it goes from 500 RPM to 1300 RPM. The linage from the govenor to the carb barely moves when this takes
place. Any help here would be appreciated.

I would try adjusting the long rod to the Governor.

I tried adjusting the long rod to the govenor but nothing changed. I even took a known good rod from another 8N
and even though there was about a 1/4 difference in the length it still does not help. Could it be in the
govenor or carb?

Del Huebner , It is in the governor, possibly a grove worn in the governor plate causing this and worn balls.

No, its an original govenor. I am going to pull it off tomorrow and check it out. I have a couple 8N govenors on
the shelf ready to go but they are not equipped to attach a tachometer cable. will see what the one thats on the
tractor looks like when I dis-assemble it.

Well, that's good news Del. I am one of the many that had to chase my tail down the aftermarket governor rabbit hole before I learned my lesson.

Thanks everyone for your help. I pulled the govenor and removed two shims to get the correct .22 gap. Everything else looked real good with good lubrication throughout. I adjusted the throttle rod a little more per specs and re-assembled. It works as it should now. Thanks again.

Great news, thanks for the feedback!
