I wouldn't bother with a free I&T F04 ANYTHING, the one I paid for years ago called for a .025 Ignition point gap on a 51 8N! The Dwell on a 4 banger is around 60 degrees or double about what an 8 Cyl engine runs at, which is 30 Degrees.

That .010 oversight and plain huge 33% gap error will show up real good after you read dwell that in all likely hood won't even give a reading.

As for that governor...any luck yet?

Got a I-T manual for a Farmall 460 diesel printed in the early sixties. Their procedure for removing the harmonic balancer is a large bearing splitter in the pulley groove, and even larger two-legged puller to power it. Bad idea. After I broke the sheave, I found out later that the hub can be pulled on at its strongest point with a medium size three-leg puller, with legs pointing outward, hooked on flat spots between the spokes.

Since the correct breaker point gap for a 1951 8N IS 0.025'' I fail to understand your post???

(1951 serial number range is 343,593 to 442,034 and and the side-mount distributor along with it's 0.025'' point gap came along at # 263,844 in 1950.)

Also, point dwell is affected by distributor cam lobe profile, as well as number of cylinders AND point gap.

ou must pay attention to whether front or side mount distributors...gap is different. Your tractor being 51 should be side mount.

On front mount tractors,a gap of.015 is specified with a dwell of 35-38 degrees. The front mount is specified to be .025,but no dwell spec is given in the I&T.
