8N Side Distributor Question

New User
I bought my N with the side mount distributor out of it, upon going to put it back in I noticed it almost appeared to bind up and not allow me to rotate the rotor to drop it down in fully, no matter how many times I tried. Upon inspection I saw what looked like a bit of damage to the gear I am trying to mesh with the gear on the distributor shaft assembly. [b:c47653e8c0]My question[/b:c47653e8c0]; what is the name of the gear on the tractor that meshes with the distributor? I will likely need to replace and am not sure what to look for. Thanks all in advance!

If that gear is bad inside the engine then the cam shaft would need to be replaced

Bcrossgr ,That camshaft does not have to be replaced as one person said,he doesn't know.
The distributor drive gear can be replaced on the camshaft.Part number # 7RA6255, the cost is $21.50.

I'm all for supporting this site, provided by our gracious hosts.

But my initial quick search didn't show it was available here.

Since it is, I certainly would put my $$$ here and order from yt.

ery nice that you fine folks cleared that cam replacement up, as disinformation is worse that no information at all!

First, get out your ESSENTIAL MANUALS and look at the diagrams and part list. Don't have them? I advise to invest in them - you won't regret it. The 8N Angle (SIDE)
Mount Distributor is unique only to the late 8N. With the NAA and after came a revamped edition of the side mount and though some parts interchange, many are
different. The 8N use a CCW Firing Order and ALL 8N's use the A Circuit Design GENERATOR. The NAA and after uses a CW Firing Order and the GENERATORS all use the B:
Circuit Design, for two important details. Some part suppliers just take whatever is on their shelf and have no clue what part they are getting. It matters where you
buy from. Meanwhile, see if this helps...

he's probably not interested in making long offtopic posts that don't even bother to address the question the OP asked.

the question is, why do YOU keep doing it?

Tim don't know why,he just likes posting the same Bovine Excrement over and over that people get tired of seeing.
But I wish he would stop posting the same thing over and over.He didn't post that junk over on the other forum, makes you wonder why he does it here! Oh one more thing he always runs Yesterday's Tractor parts down.
