Are you looking at the right 9N/2N Manual? HYDRAULIC SYSTEM has the lift Control Spring, p/n 9N-547, on the outside back behind the seat. here are some PIX to help ID
wat you might be seeing. You have to be posting here a few times B4 they will allow you to post pictures and then you need to use a picture hosting site like IMGUR and
copy and paste the URL address in post. You just can't post pictures from your PC or phone. If you send me your pictures in jpg format I will post them to your
thread...

hat numbers are they in Tim P's parts drawing?
The number is 539. It looks like they are supposed to be there. That s the first diagram I have seen that shows them.

hat seems to be the spring on top of Tim's "wishbone" photo that looks like it has a break/over-stretch place in it. It must be connected for the lift to respond to Touch control lever inputs. It is the only force available to move the control valve.

(quoted from post at 16:01:03 09/08/22) Well now I know they are supposed to be there and not a jerry rig.

When I had my lift cover off I too found this spring but mine was in the bottom of the Hydraulic pump. I had a very hard time trying to find one to make sure that mine wasn't stretched, but I was able to find one on ebay and now have an extra just incase I need it for another time.

In Tim's Wishbone picture it's hard to see where that little spring is suppose to "reconect" to, but if you look at your part number 9N-504 FORK, there should be some holes on the top of it. That is where I hooked mine up to and it seemed to be the place that it was most likely went.

I replaced this last year and haven't had the tractor running to be able to fully test it. Hopefully be able to do this later this year.

Hope this helps...

Did you click on the SEND EMAIL link in the lower RH corner of my post? You will get a YT Format in which to fill in, then send to notify the user with. Skwooey system
but that's how they have it set up.

I think you are looking at the part labeled M in the I&T FO-4 Manual - see pic - 'FORK RETRACTING SPRING'. It hooks onto a cast loop on top of the cylinder then
hooks onto the Wishbone Linkage Fork as shown in my previous picture. This is one of the parts that needs to be removed first before pulling the top cover off on a
9N or 2N system. The Wishbone Linkage Fork must also be disconnected before pulling the top cover off. You do that thru the inspection covers and slipping fork
connections off on both sides with your fingers. Here's a link below to the best D-I-Y video on the FORD 9N/2N Hydraulic System repair. FWIW & FYI - the 8N system does
not use this Fork Spring, and a new cylinder will not have the cast loop on it.

OH, where were you with this picture when I needed it? LOL, I'm going to save it off so I can use it as a reference for my tractor.

Everything I found prior didn't show it this well and that is exactly what mine looks like.

Thanks again for these pictures.

ou are welcome. I'm certain that I had them on hand last year, but I don't see every post that comes along.

I don't know why you would have two springs, if they are the 9N-539 parts we are discussing, but, they are shown and listed in every Master Parts Catalog for the 9N
and 2N tractors. Spring is hooked on cylinder top which when mounted to top cover is facing down so it can hide. Listed as p/n [ 9N-539, Spring (Hydraulic Fork
Retraction) -4.88 Free Length, - .62 O.D. ] New ones are available at Century Springs. Get a 5/8 DIA x 4-7/8 LENGTH spring. Here's two pages from the JAN 1946 MPC
with the system parts view and the parts list, shown as item #17. So, while you have the top cover off, are you going rebuild the system? Best to do it now rather than
later and have to pull it all off again. Also, it's important to note that the four bolts that secure the cylinder on with do NOT get removed until the top cover is
off and on your workbench. Use your MPC to see which four bolts to leave alone. They are under the seat, 7/16-20 SQUARE HEAD BOLTS, with two different lengths. Two
long ones and two short ones. The long ones will go on the rear of the top cover & cylinder towards the control spring. Why square heads? They help dog the bolts and
prevent slipping when tightened up. Yeah, look close and the 9N cylinder I show has Hex Head Bolts. This was a project for a friends' 9N I worked on. When I
reinstalled it I put the correct Square Head bolts on it as shown on the 8N setup as well.
