HiYa Ishmeal -
Kudos on your early '39 9N FORD-FERGUSON TRACTOR. Make sure you are looking in the right place for the engine serial number but I do see many of the correct 39
identifiers on yours. Many early 9Ns have been restored but only less than a handful have been done correctly to OEM all original. JMOR provided you with his
excellent wiring PICTOGRAMS but as you are aware, finding the 9N-10000-A GEN that used a VR is going to be the hardest to find. Even the 9N-10000-B GEN is rare as
hens teeth nowadays. So, yes, you will probably have to use the 9N-10000-C GEN and with the Round-Can Cutout until you possibly find the A or B unit. I have an OEM
9N-C all rebuilt and restored to OEM Specs for sale, and includes the fan belt tensioning bracket as well. On yours I see 32 Hat Rims; the snap-in battery cover; and
the early dash w/start button on LH and Key Switch on RH. Other early 9N features are: fuel tank fill port central on unit; 20-amp AMMETER; Muffler Shield; double
ribbed fenders; 5/8 dia screw-on chromed ball on shifter lever; hydraulic oil fill port on top of shifter cover; non-pressurized large body radiator with STANT Cap;
brass Sediment Bulb assembly; smooth rear axle hubs; 4-Spoke Steering Wheel; horizontal bar aluminum grille; Voltage Regulator mounted on lower steering box behind the
dash; and more. The good news is that if you do find an early 9N-A GEN but do not have the correct OEM VR, you can use the later NAA VR, p/n FAG10505, as it is the
same B-Circuit design. You will just have to modify the mounting of it. You cannot use the Round-Can Cutout with the 9N-A early 2-Wire GEN as it is a B Circuit
design and requires the Voltage Regulator. All 9N/2Ns after s/n 12500 were basically the same 1-Wire/3-Brush, A Circuit, with the cutout circuit. All 9N and 2Ns
used a 1-Wire Starter Motor an NO solenoid. Also, the 4-Spoke Steering Wheel and the aluminum horizontal bar grille are repopped today and will do just fine. In
addition to the OEM 9N-10000-C GEN I have for sale, there is an OEM brass Sediment Bulb; OEM 30-AMP LOOP AMMETER, 50 PSI Oil Pressure Gauge; and a Marvel-Schebler
TSX-33 Carb; but Ive sold all the other early 9N stuff I had. I can rebuild you M/S carb and front mount distributor too.
You need to get copies of the ESSENTIAL MANUALS before you do anything else. DO NOT START BUYTING ANY OTHER NEW PARTS. The 1940 MPC and 1941 MPC have most of the
detailed parts listed. I have all manuals I can email in pdf if you desire. I can help you in the right direction if you want. There is much more you to need to know
before starting this project. My email is open if you want to discuss offline further.

The 9N-10505-A VR was mounted on the lower steering box on two cast bosses with two hex bolts. When the 9N-B GEN was released, it now was a 1-Wire/3-Brush unit and
used the new roundcan cutout. FORD offered a bracket that mounted to the two bosses that could now also fasten the cutout to. I have a drawing spec and is in my
document on early 9N GENS I wrote. If you want a copy, I can send it as well.
