2N hot starting

My 2N starts great when cold but does not want to start when warmed up. Good spark. Is it likely to be carb settings or??? Thanks for your consideration.

The three most likely causes are operator error ( using the choke on a hot engine), timing and lastly, compression.

When is the last time you set the points and timing?

Ever done a compression check?

If you are new to working on these tractors this link is a good source of knowledge. Tons of info to get your head spinning. Important first things is do you have "good" spark? How did you check it? Engine hot or cold? Like Bruce said about gas. These tractors each have their own way of starting and cold start is different than hot start. When it is hot I always start mine with no choke and no throttle but like I say they are all a little different.

Very good questions Abbby, as just the heating of coil windings alone will increase resistance and therefore reduce current by as much as 50% & thus reduce spark energy to 75% of cold start energy. So, if already marginal, this heat may push over the edge. A proper ballast resistor helps offset this a bit, but not entirely and a wrong ballast may aggravate the problem. So, check that spark hot, the instant it shuts down & won't re-start.

In addition to what the others have said, eliminate a weak ignition switch by jumping around it. An old switch with some corrosion in it will get
warm when running and then not allow enough voltage to start when warm.

Ordered a new switch since this machine has sat outside for quite some time, thank you for the suggestion

Thank you all for the suggestions to an old man with fingers getting sort of slow on the mechanical stuff anymore but it is still fun despite the slowness.

Problem solved, very weak spark, changed out the wiring and that did the trick,, appreciate the suggestions and help.
