Wagner loader lift cylinders

I have a WM3 wagner loader on my 8n. One of the lift cylinders is leaking, and instead of trying to repack it, I think it would be cheaper/better to just buy new aftermarket ones. The old ones are a bit rough and the chrome is pitted in places, not bad but bad enough. It looks like I can get the proper length and stroke online for a good price, but they all seem to be double acting.

Can you convert a double acting cylinder to a single action? My thinking is simply leave one port open to vent and suck air should work...

But I thought I better ask before I do something stupid.

They sell breather vents with filters that screw into the rod end ports. Personally I would also replace the valve and add down pressure.

getting a new valve is maybe a future option. Having new double actions would leave that door open.

But for now I just need it repaired to do some work and then I'll have time to maybe add that upgrade later.

I would repack the old ones but I'm not sure if I can get the parts. The manual I have looks like its just standard V packing and O rings. Maybe I will take the leaky one apart and see how its made, If I can put a vent plug in the DA cyls then I have to take the old ones off anyway.

Looks like McMaster-carr has the vpack and O rings.

The v-packing (#5) and oring (#8 ) for the SA cylinders are cheap and readily available from McMaster. McMaster probably has a generic rod wiper(#3) that will also match up.

Breathers for the DA cylinders even cheaper.

Two lever loader valve with float is $185.

You can get the Full Monty with a joystick valve for another $70.

Good advice. Thanks. I will tear the leaking one apart and get some measurements.
Might not be as bad as it looks.

Adding those DAs for those prices looks pretty tempting.

Could I please get where you found double acting cylinders, part number and costs. Then I only need to find the valve for them and a diagram of how to hook it up.
Thanks,
Bill
