^^^ What Bruce said.

Realize the single post generator is not regulated and you adjust output by moving the 3rd brush using screw on back of generator.

Turn on your lights and throttle up a bit, look at your amp meter and adjust so it's charging. When not using lights turn it back down or it will cook out the water/overcharge your battery if you run it very long.

40 years ago when I got my N, I'd never heard of a 3-brush genny. When I fixed the lights I thought genny was bad as not charging. The mechanic at the old Ford dealership explained how it worked to me.

I added an inline fuse to the hot wire coming off the junction block, feeding the lights, on my N when I redid the light wires.

Get out your ESSENTIAL MANUALS and related documents (JMOR's WIRING PICTOGRAMS; 75 TIPS by BRUCE VA, and use as roadmaps. 9N/2N used a 11 AMP, 1-Wire/3-Brush, A
Circuit Design, GENERATOR that requires the Round-Can Cutout Circuit in order to function properly. Lighting kits were never a factory feature on all 9N & 2N's. They
were always a dealer supplied optional accessory. Many lights get wired incorrectly resulting in shorts and non-starting issues. FWIW & FYI: The 6V Sealed Beam
Headlight is Industry Standard part number 4019. The 12V Sealed Beam Headlight is p/n 4419.
