Okay, what did I fry

I was adjusting the carb on my 12 Volt 2n. The tractor was running fine but sputtered a few times. So I cranked it to start, no
excessive starting or cranking. Suddenly the starter stopped. It sounds like it wants to crank, I hear a clack when I hit the
starter button but nothing happens. There was slight whisps of smoke coming from the solenoid under the battery. I know that is
never a good sign. What could have happened?

Is this something that I can let sit and pray it fires up? Or am I in for buying more parts?

That thing under the battery that is smoking is the starter switch not solenoid. I would remmove the wires going to it and clean them brite and shiny and reconnect and see what happens. could just be a loose connection.

What the others said about clean and tight connections. Loose connection create heat.
However it's possible that the starter switch may be on it's last legs and making a poor connection internally. You can try shorting the two terminals with a screw driver and see what happens.

The starter switch is simply a holder for the two contacts and when you push the starter,a contact moves foreward, making contact with the two other contacts, and completing the circuit to the starter. Mine finally went bad, after I took it apart and cleaned the contacts. It lasted 4-5 years, but the contacts were pitted and finally failed. It's easy to replace and not too expensive.

So I just took the starter button off cleaned the contacts
and put it back on. Same clack with no movement. And
when I held the button near the shifter down the starter
under the battery let a little smoke out again. I was going
to run up to tractor supply and grab a new starter button.

How do I check the the starter drive? I tried to take the
actual starter motor off but it was being finicky and didnt
want to force it off so I tightened it back up.

I tried to jump it after watching a YouTube video. Lots of
sparks but it didnt seem to work. Some white smoke
from the starter button and the top connector of the
starter motor.

First of all make sure tractor is in neutral so you do not get run over.

Take a jumper cable and jump from the positive side of the battery straight to the post on the starter. Clamp to battery first and just touch on the starter post. What this does is bypasses the starter button and any connection concerns aside from ground. We would expect for the engine to turn over assuming you have a good battery. If it does not turn over then something is wrong with the starter.

I did as you instructed and nothing happened other than
a few sparks. No movement. Bummer. Im curious what
happened.

Starter drive is locked to the flywheel. Put it in high gear & rock the tractor using the rear wheel until it releases. Or pull the starter if it doesn't.

Prior to your post I started searching for starter stuck and learned that it is a somewhat common problem. I will try to address this sometime in the morning.

I was able to take the starter off. Put it back in, tightened it up and the old machine fired right up. Thank you all for the learning experience.

Great Deal :D

With the way you worded it in the first post,
That was my first guess, and that is easy and doesn't cost much :)
Glad you got it fixed. :D
