Put on new amp gage wired the same as old broken one will not show charge or discharge stays on 0 already tried switching wires
same thing

Is the fan belt tensioned correctly? Condition of battery good? Test at a shop under load. Connecting a trickle charger to it won't do squat if it has depleted sulphate and won't sustain a full charge under load. We need more info. Is the electrical system 6V/POS GRN or 12V/NEG GRN? Is the wiring 100% correct for whatever setup? Don't assume because you have a 6V battery, or 12V for that matter, it is wired correctly for that system. The 6V/POS GRN setup uses a GENERATOR and a VOLTAGE REGULATOR on an 8N. If you swap out for a 12V NEG/GRN setup, the GEN and VR get taken out of the equation and an ALTERNATOR is replaced instead. Is Coil 6V or 12V? With EITHER setup, you must use a fan belt tensioning device so proper fan belt tension is maintained otherwise your battery will NEVER get charged. Next, if all is right thus far, is the GEN charging? Take to your trusty starter/alt shop to test. A full charge on battery and a good GEN may not show any charging on AMMETER. Start with BAT, next is wiring.

all 6 volt pos. ground rewired everything one wire at a time new wires not to color coding same gage wiring diff.color. the guy who owned before had battery in hooked up neg. ground but said did not know about pos ground he bought without a battery.

These N's will operate in 6V or 12V, POS or NEG GRND but the GEN must be polarized for which system is used. Should be automatic when rebuilt GEN is done and tested. Polarizing can be done on the tractor with POWER OFF using the Voltage Regulator but only after then only after the wiring setup has been certified correct. A 12V ALT gets no polarizing. The Wiring Harness is so very important and I'm glad you mentioned it as it is often a neglected part of the equation. Colors do not conduct electrons. Never assume your harness is OEM Color Coded correct. Chances are the original harness has been replaced and many new aftermarket ones, the cheap ones mostly, are not color coded as the original. Use your wiring diagrams when wiring and your VOM set to Continuity; never use an idiot test light. Test lights require power and you do NOT want to have power applied to the circuit when verifying the wiring.
