Wire attached to top radiator hose on Ford 9N

Hello...I am VERY new to owning a tractor. Had bought some land and received a 9N as a gift from my Father-in-law (he had purchased it a few years ago but did little with it). I have been gradually do some maintenance such as spark plugs, transmission/hydraulic fluid, etc. I was set to change the coolant and radiator hoses when I noticed the top hose has a wire attached to it. I was not sure how to replace it. Is that related to the thermostat? The temp gauge? Do I need to attach that wire to the new hose? Also, any tips/directions on how to install a new thermostat within the new hose. Do I just insert it in the hose (in the correct direction) and then attach the hose? Or is there more to that?

Thanks in advance.

Unless your tractor has a temp gauge on it, the wire on the top hose is probably to keep the t-stat in place.

You'll find it easier to get a new top hose & clamps. Install the t-stat in the hose, then remove the old hose off the tractor. Install the new hose w/ the t-stat
already in it.

(quoted from post at 16:07:23 06/12/22) Picture?

Not always, but in many cases new users have to have 5 or more posts on record before the site lets them post pictures (or links), due to site spam filters. Another option is to go down to the Site Comments Forum and ask YT Support for permission to post prior to that. One can try going down to the Test Forum and making several posts there to get their post count up, trying to attach their pictures to each post. That may work after one makes several posts. Then make their post here again. It may not work immediately after one gets past the 5 posts, if not, they might try logging out and back in at that point. There is a size limit as well, I think it is a total of 7mb per post (be it one picture or the total of several). Some pictures (often taken with phones), are too large and have to be reduced before they will post.

Thank you. The 9N is kept out on some land I own, and I cannot get a pic to post at the moment. I should be there this coming weekend.

From memory I believe there is a temp gauge, so maybe that is what the wire is for. The hose kind of looked like it had a black patch on it a few inches down from the end with the wire coming out of it. I will try to get a pic soon. Thank you for your comments and help.

Yesterday I was able to reach up and remove the upper radiator hose...that took me a big chunk of the day right there as the clamp had been installed in a direction where it was facing inward and hard to reach. After having that removed I was able to unscrew the mount on the hose from where the wire exited. The wire was attached to a probe/sender for the water temp gauge. The wire feeds back toward the instrument panel. The hose did have a thermostat tucked down in it as well, but it was in very crooked to the point where coolant could bypass around it no problem. After reading online about 9N's not really needing a water temp gauge, I decided not to try to reinstall the probe into the new upper hose. I placed a new thermostat in the new hose and installed it. Now I am praying for no leaks.
