GS55 update

GS55 posted an SOS call for help a few months ago regarding needing help getting her, 6 volt, 9n started. I found out I lived a few miles away so
made contact and set up a time for me to stop by. In the post, she stated it quit running and was sitting in the side yard and had a couple of
wires hanging off on the side. I tracked the one wire to the coil and found the other end from the ignition switch and wired it back together. I
installed a new set of points and she was able to get it started and put back in it's shed. While there I noticed the original start button was
missing and there was a 'temporary' button taped to the battery cable. I said I would like to get an original starter button for it simply for the
safety factor, which GS55 had no problem with me doing so. I ordered a new button from YT and went back and installed the new button. I really
looked it over closer on this trip and found that the other wire that was hanging loose was from the genny. I then discovered that the infamous
resistor was taken out of the equation all together so I ordered a new resistor from a local dealer. Long story short, I replaced the missing
starter button, resistor, and also the cutout relay as testing of the old cutout was showing that the internal contacts were stuck or 'welded'
together. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon correcting the 'rats nest' of wiring and getting the 9n wired properly. She still has a couple
of unresolved issues one being the bearing on the top of the steering column is gone and could use some suggestions on getting the steering wheel
off without destroying it as it is a 3 spoke steering wheel. Right now we are putting PB blaster to it but am open to suggestions for the safe
removal of the steering wheel.

Thank you for the tip. We have 1/2 of it covered as we removed the nut and have been spraying pb blaster to it. When our schedules coincide I'll be heading back and give the hammer tip a try.

Somewhere on this site is pics of pulling a steering wheel using a bearing separator under the wheel and a puller with bolts to the separator on the shaft.
