Looking to possible downsize tires from 12.4s to 11.2s

The 8n I bought to fix up and resell has one "okay" casing and one that's totally -- and literally -- shot through. In looking for a new 12.4x28 I noticed that this isn't the original tire. I'd prefer to run shorter tires if possible, not the world's most powerful engine, I don't think it needs my help sapping it's horsepower, not to mention that a smaller tire means a slower tractor and slower is often better.

But, I'd rather not put money into new rims of I don't have too. Tires are not things I usually have to think about and I'm at a loss with all the numbers. Not sure what sort of tire I need to look for if I want to step down the overall height, without having to put new rims onto the machine as well.

Here's what I've got on there now.

The left-side tire seems to be in good enough shape not to change, so maybe the benefit of downsizing wouldn't be worth the cost of buying two new tires.

If that was my tractor, I would get one Galaxy tire the same size as the other side.
I am very impressed with the Galaxy I bought quite a few years ago for my 52 8N.
Tractor gets used all the time.

The OEM tire/wheel sizes for an 8N are 11.2X28 tires on 9 (as properly measured) rims.

I may be wrong (happened before in 1971), but my understanding is that the 12.4 tire is the direct
replacement for the 11.2. HTH

Bob,
11.2 is a modern tire size, as is 12.4.

A 12.4 is the "next size up" from an 11.2

Note that you can usually go up at least one tire width on the same width wheel, depending on what you're looking for
