Just got it didn't look too bad before but on the trailer there was a good sized puddle under it. unsure if the wind from the tow dragged some of it out or not.
Not sure if there is supposed to be a plug or if it is a weep hole.
The guy did have a backhoe on it no idea if it would be a return or anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

It appears to me that you have a 9N/2N ''trumpet'' on your alleged 8N tractor. There's a significant difference in parts at the 3-point arm ''pin'' between the series. Is the ''trumpet'' on the other side the same?

Note that the 8N ''trumpet'' in the photo doesn't have the ''mystery hole''. (Look closely as an oil spot in that area makes it confusing at first glance.

You can see the extra parts used on the older tractors in the drawing below. Wonder if someone perhaps siliconed or otherwise ''plugged'' the hole in yours?

9N/2N parts lookup.

I found another photo more clearly showing the absence of the ''mystery hole'' in an 8N ''trumpet''.

Cleaned off the other side more and looked at it but it seems a bolt might have rattled out
Based on the exploded view it looks like the bolt come from the inside to outside and the nut goes on the outside.
The right side appears to have the bolt going toward the internals and hopefully with a bit on the other side

So, you have 9N/2N ''trumpets'' on both sides. Part of the cast iron ''lower link support plate'' appears to be broken off on the LH side.

What do the rear wheels look like, does it have 9N/2N axles, as well?

If an 8N, hubs and wheels should look like the photo above.

3 speed or 4 speed transmission?

(quoted from post at 12:18:20 05/28/22) 3 speed
And there is nothing snapped off blocking
the hole. It is threaded on the trumpet

3-speed means the rear end (at least) is a 9N or a 2N, NOT an 8N.

It appears to me the ''support'', Key # 21, is broken off in the photo you posted. CORRECTION/edit... I see the part dangling downward, after the bolt has fallen out that's supposed to be holding it.

The pivot pin passes through it, it extends rearward and the bolt in the ''mystery hole'' should pass through it.

(To be clear, you need to be looking at the 9N/2N parts drawings, as you DO NOT have the back half (at least) of an 8N.)

Thank you for the speedy replies
I will be more looking toward 9n/2n rear end related parts.
Thank you for the help
for whatever reason my phone nor computer were vert corporative with posting the pictures.

Yosxph, usually new posters have to post 5 or 6 times before they can post photos on here. I'm surprised you could post yours at all.
Your tractor looks like a 2N from front to back to me. The clue to the front end is the absence of a solenoid on top of the starter which an 8N would have.
If you can read the serial number which is located just below the head and just aft of the oil filter, let us know and we can tell you the model and year.

My 2-N had an OIL leak........
ONLY way to stop leak was to install new Lift PINS...and BRACKETS...
And, the PINS were Straight shank pins...NOT Tapered..

I looked at my 9n,and one side, the left, has a stud and nut,the other a bolt. I wouldn't use a very long one, just long to fully seat into the trumpet so as not to hit anything in there.

The left side on my 9N has been leaking a few years now. I don't have access to a decent garage to do the work in, and money is tight, so have been putting it off. Plan would be to do the brakes and axle seals at same time.

I've got a gentle bank on one side of my driveway so I park it with the left rear wheel up on the bank and front end pointed down towards the driveway. Parked like that the oil runs forward and to the right, the oil is below the leak and I don't loose any when it's not running.

Have a HD military tarp to cover the N with. It lives outside but stays dry.
