Hi Everyone..Hope all are safe and well. My 1947 8N has me puzzled as she wont start without jumping. The battery is fully charged and not that old. I am getting power from the pushbutton to the starter. The only way it will start is when I jump it from my truck battery. Do I need to replace the pushbutton or is there a way I can bypass the pushbutton and start it manually? Thank you so much.....Please stay well and safe

n the 8N there is no "power from the push button". The button supplies ground to the solenoid to engage it. You can bypass the solenoid by jumpering the two large terminals together. Don't run over yourself.

thanks so much..Hey, the wire attached to the pushbutton that goes to the solenoid on the starter is hot...Do you think someone wired it incorrectly? I just cant understand why it starts when I jump? Thank YOu

The starter button that sits on top of the transmission the wire going to it is hot and grounds when you push the button so what you have is correct

round out the wire going to the switch, it it cranks over, the switch may be bad. One of mine I have to rotate the push button once in while to get it to work. If grounding the wire does not cause it to crank , the starter solenoid may be bad.

Be sure the tractor is in neutral. You can run a jumper wire from the terminal on the solenoid that goes to the switch and touch it to ground. If the tractor turns over your switch is bad. If it doesn't it's most likely the solenoid.
