A while back I posted about finding a rear rim for an N series tractor. I decided to get a loop style rim. The tires are 11.2 28's. I see there are different widths of rims available. What is the proper width rim for this tire size? Or is there a way to measure the rim width with the tire mounted in the rim?

Dean, I believe you are right. I measured the rim as per jimtrs and it measures just under 10 in. overall. Thank's all for the input.

The correct 28 rim width for 9/2/8N tractors is 9 as properly measured according to jimtr's posting below. The overall width of the rim should be approximately 10.

If your N is an NAA (53-54) add 1.

For whatever reason, the website strips out the inches double quote marks.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

Wheel width is measured from inside bead to inside bead, down where the rubber sits. Most wheels can be measured with mounted tires. Just need to get a tape or scale from one side through to the other side. Can't do it on the old hat rims

Rule of thumb is the rim is 1 inch narrower then the tire so in your case the tire is 11.2 inches wide so the rim should be 10 inches wide

From M.E. Miller tire: 11.2-28_(10-28) I would get a 9 rim.

Either way it goes the best way to know the rim size one need is to simply read what is says on the side of the tire. I have not seen any rear tractor tire that doesn't say what size rim it should be mounted on
