Dustless blasting

Anyone have experience with this? Pros/Cons?

My tractor is getting uglier and uglier and I want to paint it up. The sheet metal will go to a body shop--I suck at body work.

The tractor in the video is a John Deere but the video is a nice presentation.

Are you looking to DIY this or pay a pro to do it?

Dustless blasting uses high-pressure water instead of air. The main advantage is that it's, well, dustless. Like any kind of abrasive blasting, the pro-grade equipment works better.

I have a friend that has a portable business doing blasting, he did some 55 Merc. fenders and hood + doors for me and it was the way to go, he says that tractors are real easy to do and the results are great,
the only problem is you have to be careful with getting the media out of the joints and bearing surfaces after. usually a good power washing takes care of that.

That appears to be high pressure water with blast media injection. You can buy the mixing nozzle kits for use with a pressure washer. They work fine but the trick is keeping the media dry. If it gets wet it won't flow through the mixing nozzle and you are done. I had one and had a lot of trouble.

If you are willing to pay hire a mobile unit or take the machine to a shop. I use a heavy truck repair facility about 10 miles from me. They blast truck and trailer bodies as part of their business so they have a serious booth and blast equipment. Drop it off, come back in a few days, write a check, and take it home.

I'd be taking it to a place that does this. The method on the video is apparently high-pressure water with some sort of crushed glass media.

I was worried about the media getting everywhere it shouldn't be.

Dustless or otherwise media and particles removed from the work surface will get everywhere. Proper sealing and/or post blast cleaning have to he part of the plan. Don't count too heavily on sealing being effective.
