8N Toy Question

I picked up a pair of 1:64 Ford toy tractors for my diorama - a Jubilee and an 8N.

They look to be fairly accurate with one exception: Both are gray and blue.

I'm guessing the 8N should be a red belly, correct? Easy enough to re-paint if so.

That's the newer set. I don't know why Ertl decided to make blue 8n and NAA. They also did a blue 1/16 scale 8n.

If you look for the older 8n and NAA Ertl made in early 2000 they are red/grey.

Ertl also made a gray 9n, blue/grey 4000, yellow industrial 4000, blue/grey 2000 all in 1/64

A new compamy named greenlight Has several versions on 8n 9n toys. The series is called down on the farm. The next one in that series is a 1943 2n millitary tractor in olive green.

I have five of the Greenlight brand 8n toys. Don't know why they painted every one a different color. They also have one or two with loaders. Soon will have a wartime olive green version of a 2n. The 1948 8n comes with brown paint splatters to make it look rusty.

(quoted from post at 14:18:09 01/22/22) Yup, this is ERTL set 13942.

I'm going to paint both of them in the gray/red scheme. Blue just doesn't look right.

Sure it does!

That's mine right before I bought it in 2001.

It's been red and grey since 2009.

YEP, new scale models of N's are blue. ALL 9N & 2N models were FORD M2888 DARK GREY. The 8N sported the M2822 FORD Vermillion (red) and the M13243 FORD Medium Grey. The latter was used up thru 1962 on the Hundred Series Models. Back in the day, FORD had a scheme to sell to dealers whereby they could paint old inventory of 2N's to the new 8N paint colors in hopes that prospective buyers would go for the red belly paint job thinking they were getting an 8N model. FORD did the same when the Thousand Series Models came out. They advertised you could get your Hundred Series tractor painted in the newer Empire Blue and Off-White scheme. As the late old curmudgeon Dell used to say, ...you kin paint it enny color you want except green and yeller...
