adjusting steering pinion gear

I can't find any specific instructions in the shop manual to adjust the pinion gear. I have a lot of play in my steering wheel and I'm thinking that if I can lower the pinion gear a little that it might not skip outa wack and cause my front wheels to go we hocky.
 

OK you are right .......It was right in front of me. dunderhead that I am....... been too focused on sector arm adjustment paragraph.

still reading it I don't understand by the instructions how tightening the lower nut actually drives the pinion gear lower. But I will try.
 
Was not meant to be an insult! sorry bout that. I have never adjusted that type myself, mine are both late 8n's. I read it to say that the shaft can be adjusted up or down to achieve the proper back lash!
