9N hydraulic woes

46 9N. Got the motor running. PTO spins. Put new fluid in the
transmission.

Running the tractor with the PTO engaged lifts the 3PT hitch
no matter what the control is set to. Lift drops when pump isnt
running.

Now I think I know that means the cylinders are leaking since
it drops as soon as I turn it off, but it would be nice to have
someone tell me for sure.

I cant seem to tell for sure what the problem is that I dont
have control. I took the side covers off and sucked a bunch of
fluid back out. There are two arms that come down, one on
each side, that move when I move the lift control. They seem
to go down to a rod between them. The rod has an irregular
spot in the middle, but doesnt seem connected to anything
else. Im assuming thats the issue.

What should that bar attach to?

The linkage connects to a hydraulic spool in the base of the pump. That spool controls the flow of oil to the lift cylinder. The workshop manual contains all of the details and is recommended reading.

Tore the pump out and the spool is missing. That explains why it doesn't work right. Ordered one and the gaskets to go with it.

Thanks!

Certainly won't work without the spool but one wonders why it was missing. Perhaps I am just the suspicious type but I am inclined to suspect there is more to this story. Look it over good and verify what you can while its out. Hopefully all else is fine and I am just getting a bit paranoid in my old age.
