so i just got the new resistor and the there are 2 sets of screws and the smaller ones are to small so the larger screws dont go thru the les so I tried to file the holes larger but it did not do much as seems they are ceramic. so I dont want to drill ceramic? it would crack? any sugestions ? I only need a little taken off the hole ..maybe my file is no good?

I got mine from yesterday's tractor, and the screws that came with it were all wrong, the big ones were too big and the little ones were too little. I had to use the original screws from my tractor.

I'm betting that you are big ones are too big not only for the resistor but for the holes behind your dash. If so, go find some correctly sized screws. You shouldn't have to drill.

yes well I tried the original screws and also and they wont go thru , there is a metal inside hole ..By the way Made in China $20

My 9n has the cast iron dash. It takes the large screws. I bought my 9n years back before the net was invented. I ordered the resister from NAPA without the mounting plate. I made one using a scrap of hard wood flooring. It's still working.

I'm having the same problem. A gentle application of a hammer got the screws to go through the ceramic, but the new part is thicker than the old one I took off while the screws are the same length, so I can't get them to bite into the threads on the tractor. Thinking I might have to either visit my local hardware store and pray they have the same screw but slightly longer, take a dremel to the underside of the screw head to shorten the tapered part, or put the new resistor on the backing from the old wiring block.

Just remove the white rings from the screw holes and they will work fine. They just made one resistor to work on the 9N-2N with the large screws and the 8N with the small screws.

You have bought the wrong one. There are TWO styles, one for the 9N/2N and one for the 8N Model. The ONLY difference is in the mounting screws. The 9N-12250-B Ballast Resistor (NOW A8NN-12250-B) uses p/n 24626-S7, with 5/16-18 x 7/16 Flat Head Screws and the 8N tractor uses 8N-12250 (now A8NN-12250-A)Ballast Resistor with p/n 41843-S8, #12 x 5/8 7/16 Flat Head Screw. Other than the screws, there is NO difference in the design, technical specs, and function of the parts. Return the part where you got it from, if you can, some won't return electrical stuff, and order the correct one.

If the metal sleeve in the mounting holes go all the way thru, then they are there to keep from crushing the ceramic block when tightened.

The one he has now will work fine if he just removes the inserts. That's why it came with both size screws. We sell and install them on a regular basis.
