8N overhaul kits

Can anyone recommend a good overhaul kit for a 8N. I need the .040 liners and pistons. And the complete valve train except for lifters. Seems like theres a lot of kits out there. Which one have you guys had luck with?

Do you have the block boiled and all disassembled? If not, don't buy anything til you know exactly what to get. Doing it yourself? A good experienced shop can be a big help. Engine kits are everywhere, I shop at the places in North Carolina.

I sent the block to Machine Shop. They boiled it out pull the liners and ground the valve seats. He also ground the crank. Ive found that parts in North Carolina are a little high compared to other places.

The parts section on this forum has overhaul kits, they have more than that. I will be ordering one in a
few days plus complete valve train kit.

ave them also check the camshaft bore in the block. In summary these old tractors didnt have cam bearings and the cam rides in the block. If the cam to bore clearance is out of spec youll have oil pressure problems even if everything else is right.

If your block is out of spec it isnt a big deal. The machinist will need to source the correct bearings for it. A Ford flathead V8 has the same cam journal size as an 8n so those would likely work. Then he would need to bore the cam tunnel for the bearings.

If in spec no problem but need to check it while its down.

Did your machine shop guy check your lifters? Chances are they needed or need to be ground so the bottoms are rounded.
