EBay warning, popgun48

popgun48 lists tractor parts as remanufactured to spec. Well, I received a carb with worn throttle and choke shafts with old worn seals, a cracked venturi, a bent float, a worn float valve, a damaged idle screw. At that point I stopped looking. The only new part was the main gasket and a manifold gasket. The exterior had been burnished and all screw heads polished. Screw threads were still rusty. The price was expensive because it was "remanufactured and tested on a tractor. Ready to bolt on and go".

I have requested a full refund including shipping and taxes. I will let you know what happens.

WHenever I buy something from ebay , I always pay with PAyPAl . They have saved me many times and always have got my money back from bad / misleading sellers .

(quoted from post at 20:00:25 08/02/21) There is a fellow on facebook (Jim Hughes) that is supposed to do great work rebuilding carbs.

He also sells them outright as well.
More info would be appreciated so I could find him.
EDIT: Never mind I found him. His photo is him sitting on Ford N tractor

Yup that's him.
Jim's Tractor Works in Indiana

I haven't used him myself, but others on the Ford pages on Facebook say he does really good work.

Yes you want to steer clear of Popgun 48. I bought an original, completely rebuilt TSX33 from him on ebay that was not overhauled as he had stated. When asked questions about the state of the carb, h gave me some of most ridiculous excuses I have ever heard.

I saw about 30 carbs sales he has had listed on his feedback and I don't think I saw any negative feedback . I am thinking that now days when a dispute is issued no feed back can be left ? I don't know the guy , but I have learnt to read the fine print and never buy something that has a "file" photo and not the actual part you are buying .

We have 2 or 3 guys on this forum that rebuilds carbs plus they help with any problems we have, why don't you contact them and buy from someone that is reliable and does good work?

I find it odd he has 100% positive feedback. I'm an ebay seller buyers will leave negative for any stupid reason. Some will leave a negative just because they
know the seller can't.

(quoted from post at 22:22:31 08/04/21) Personally I believe that eBay is the place to handle these disputes and that posting names here is inappropriate.

So, it's wrong to give you a warning? Strange indeed!

What if popgun48 posted up saying you were dishonest and trying to scam him.... wouldn't matter if it was true or not. It could hurt your credibility without having to be proven....

Ebay has a procedure to handle buyer seller disputes and paypal will give you your money back...

Doesn't have to happen many times before ebay bans him.

I am thinking that now days when a dispute is issued no feed back can be left ?

this is the case, which is dopey. the reason for the dispute was the misleading or lying by the seller about the item. just because the dispute sees a resolution (refund/etc) doesn't mean that feedback shouldn't be possible; how better to warn potential future bidders/buyers about the shady seller?

been there, done that.

ebay feedback can be quite misleading.
If you take up a dispute directly with the seller, the seller can report the buyer as "trying to get money from the seller". You will not be allowed to leave feedback, period.
Going through ebay can take loads of time. IMHO, ebay favors sellers not buyers.
In my case, the carb purchased was installed and worked [u:4a90845a47]just OK[/u:4a90845a47]. I left positive feedback. New tank and fuel lines, so no issue of rust or debris. After a couple of hours operation, I could not get the idle mixture screw to adjust properly. Took the carb back off, and observed that it had new gaskets, but that was it. Had to clean debris out of the passage ways to get it to run right.

Why would I waste more time taking up a dispute? My error was leaving positive feedback before [u:4a90845a47]fully evaluating[/u:4a90845a47] the item.

Your argument makes little sense. Right now I have a different E-Bay seller calling me a liar, thief and scammer, among other things.
I really don't care and it doesn't hurt my reputation. I purchased a water pump described as NOS or rebuilt. He claimed he didn't really know as it had been sitting on a shelf for decades. Upon receiving it I realized it had bad bearings and the only "rebuild" was a paint job. I asked to return the item through E-Bay and that's when his name calling started. He sent nasty multiple messages and refused to authorize the return. He even asked me to take a picture of the bad bearing. I don't have an x-ray machine. I complained to E-Bay and gave him negative feedback. I have been an E-Bay user for over 20 years and this was my first negative feedback. I now have the shipping label to return it; E-Bay must have contacted him. Fair warning! Don't buy an 8N water pump on E-Bay as it may have bad bearings. Just for you, I didn't identify him.

"Handles" are not names.

Also....

After 12 months all negative feedbacks do not effect your feedback rating.

It is not uncommon for sellers to have multiple ebay accounts.

Sell the good stuff with one account and sell the junk via another account.

Sorry to hear that you had a similar experience. I gave the seller who scammed me negative feedback, then he authorized the return and asked me to change my feedback (after he called me a liar, scammer and thief - Nope!). I gave him negative feedback a second time. He then said he wasn't going to refund my shipping charges. E-Bay had already refunded the full amount. I never mounted his carb on my tractor because upon visual inspection I suspected something was wrong. He made up a story that the carb came back to him filled with motor oil and said I had mounted it on a tractor with a defective air cleaner. I was asked again to change my feedback. I kept it negative. I still am getting e-bay messages from him but I no longer open them. Unbelievable.
