OT......Low compression on line trimmers

There are lots of bright folks here on this site and hope you can explain
why compression on small 2 cycle engines with the Walbro type carbs seems
to drop off. I have several items like line trimmers, blowers, tillers,
hedge trimmers, etc that have failed due to low compression (below 90
psi) that happened rather suddenly it seems.
I checked spark plug firing, squirted gas in carb, muffler, and the
compression comes up below 90 psi that appears the likely cause.
Could it be the area below the piston is at fault due to leakage or
something. It just seems odd that a good running engine would drop off
compression so suddenly. Any thoughts?

Pistons rings get loaded with deposits and stick. Fuel mix is usually the culprit. Tear it down and clean pistons and replace rings.

There could be a lot of reasons for this, but running dirty air filters is very destructive, Using more oil than necessary will give you a lean air/fuel mixture,as oil isn't fuel and unless adjusted richer[more fuel-oil] it can die as well. The pistons can be easily removed and the rings checked and cleaned if necessary, but in my experience, the rings won't be the problem, but worn cylinders, pistons and reed valves,if existing.
