Sad day....

I hauled some junk to the scrap yard today and saw this.... almost asked em to load it on my trailer...

Got same price as scrap as would have gotten with for sale sign on it. Didnt have to worry about no shows, low ballers , tire kickers.

From the picture, looks like it's worth a lot more than scrap price. They only weigh a little over a ton. Likely could have doubled or tripled what the iron man gave them. Definitely would have followed me
home if I saw it. Could have been somebody cleaning up an old farmstead and didn't want to mess with taking the time to sell stuff.

A man I met at a Neighbor's house, since I rode my 9n over there to pull a car out of a muddy field,he said that about once a
week, someone brings one in to the metal yard where he works. He said that many actually drive off of the trailer and over the scales.
Sad day,indeed!

The scrap yards around here would ding you for the tires being left on , so you would get less than scrap price.

What is kind of funny about this is I stop at a gas station to fill up trailering my Ratty NAA and a guy said if I was heading to the scrap yard and he might be interested in buying it . I said
no it's not for sale I'm heading to a tractor pull. He said you mean that thing actually runs?

My second N came out of a scrap pile. I noticed the oil pan sticking out the top of the pile and I needed a oil pan. He said I could have the engine for $50 I dug it out. When I got it home I took the engine apart and used the oil pan and crank in my first N's engine.

It was not a complete N it had been disassembled I got what I could dig out. The head had been removed from the engine why I dunno but other than that a complete engine that had just been rebuilt. Why would someone junk a rebuilt engine that was better than the one I had as I got deep into it the hub had came lose on the cam gear I spec it had a bad rattle it stumped them they scrapped it out.

I got a good oil pan a nice crankshaft and sold the block and pistons for $350... I still have other parts of that tractor I salvaged other than scrap they are scrap they had been in the weather to long to be of any value. I think I sold a few pieces like the rim centers etc that I add as a value tip when I got the engine.

He had a N standalone generator but was proud of it to this day I wish I had brought it. It was all there and looked like it would run.

I got to know this scrapper good he was an interesting guy. He started bring me his personal vehicles to repair. He was always at auctions I went to he would buy anything. He would find a place to sit and bid. He seamed to be doing well at it and enjoying life so I asked him one day how do you make money at this.

He said it was tuff he only made 2%, of course I looked at him funny he then said I buy it for a dollar and sale it for $2... 2%

One more thing his drive and drive to his shop was steel. He would cut up storage tanks lay them out as a driveway. He had a big layout all of the fence was steel he had salvaged it looked nice.

Remember the Troll that frequented this sight claiming to scrap every Ford N he could find. That is sad for sure it looks like you could start it up and drive of the pile then put it right to work. I love both of mine.

At the scrap yard by me the guy has been saving Ns. Guys bring them in for scrap so he gets them cheap. Last I saw he had 5 out front, and probably more in the back.
