I dropped the pan on this 8N motor and I have a Tisco Oil pan gasket set for it . so in the package I got both gaskets and 4 ens seals and 2
are longer and bigger more like the old rope style. So since im only using the lower halfs because Im not removing tne cranckhaft . I push
the ends into the pan half and I have too much seal. Do I trim the ends off flush with the block surface or do they tuck up in the upper side
of crnk? one end of each rope seal has a pink colored end? thanms

Standard procedure is soak them in clean oil from one half hour to a entire day, then after you install them, trim them with a razor so the stick up a few tenths of an inch (use the same worn dime you gap your plugs and points with). This tiny bit of extra material will crush when you tighten the pan to the block and provide an oil-tight seal between the two halves- theoretically...

I still wonder about the pink stuff only on one end. Why would they do that? cant see them doing Anymore then they have to in manufacturing.?
Seeing that all 4 seals have a pink on only 1 end I wonder if I then intentions is for some rason to put the pink end in one side and leave yhat little bit sticking out and then just make 1 cut instead of 2 cuts?

I spec you could soake'em in oil till ell froze over they would not absorb any oil...

I cut them as flush as I can knowing its impossible to cut them flush so some does stick out... Someone said they are made out of Teflon. I would have to agree because I dunno what they are made out of. I do know they burn in and get hard as a rock... I doubt you could squeez any oil out of them..

I put them in dry roll and fit them in then cut the ends and rub oil on the sealing surface. This does bring up another question "do I cut the pan gasket" KNOW the gasket fits between the ends of the rope seal... You can trim the gasket to lay right again the crankshaft.

I have never seen a complaint about the way I do it but have from the oil soakers recommendation's.
