So my son buys a tractor and drops it off for me to restore after his buddy bought it and then tried to work on it and gave up . He did not want to split the tractor and put a new ring gear on it and in th mean time bought alot of new stuff like clutch disc, pressure plate ,throw out bearing , crank bearing for trans poilot saft, 4 new bolts for flywheel and starter , all the manuals for it and so he told my kid it was a 9N. I started working on it and now I see the engine says 8N on the head and side of block and center main bearibg cap. but the distributor is on the front not the side? its a 3 speed with the overdrive handle on left side ,has brake pedals on both sides , has 9 n wheels , I beam radius bars , only 1 handle for 3 pt lift lever under right side , the steering wheel has 3 bars , fan blade is 6 blades , I can only think someone has upgraded this to a 8N? here is the pictures of the serial number on block and head .? but why is there no side distributor? also the govenor says 9N on it too.

Sounds like you have a mutt. Probably a 9N with an 8N engine. The 8N started production with a front distributor and the side distributor was introduced near the end of production. Many of the 9N and 8N parts interchange and some 9N parts were used to build 8N tractors.
