I have this bare bones reman block. Buddy has a 9N with cracked block. He wants to take all his 9N guts and rebuild. It should work?

Well one major difference is that there would be no place to put a side mount distributor into an early block

The distributor doesn't go into the "Block" anyway! The block isn't different in that respect! The timing cover and camshaft is different though! You can put a timing cover and camshaft from a side mount block on a front mount block and convert it to a side mount distributor!

Bmack95hd,Other than the distributor,on the later N block is the generator mount on the left side, the oil fill tube moved back, the oil filter canister moved back and timing hole and cover in rear clutch housing area of the block.

The side mount block and timing cover were both changed to move the generator to the left side of the block and make room for the distributor in the right side of the timing cover.

Yes, that is correct. I was just saying that a front mount block can be converted to a side mount distributor. I have seen a few for sale that were converted, the only thing is you have to find a way to mount the generator or an alternator on the left side because the mount isn't there on the front mount block.
