9N has me stumped. No spark on cylinder 3?

So I have a 39 9N with the front mount distributor. Anyways this last winter I had an issue to where it wouldn't start. Went in to replace the points and all accompanying parts. Come to find out the distributor was pretty worn out so I ended up purchasing a whole new distributor. Put the new distributor on along with new plugs and wires. The tractor fired right up, but obviously wasn't running to it's fullest. Pulled the plugs and all had a brownish tint to them besides #3 which was completely clean and smelled of gas. So I got out my plug tester light and when I tested it the light barely lit. Very very dim light compared to the rest of the plugs. So I swapped around wires and didn't matter which wire was on #3 it just wouldn't spark. Pulled the distributor off and noticed that #3 nipple on the cap had no black soot from spark while the rest did. Put the old distributor cap on from my old distributor and still no spark on #3. Any ideas??

I had the #2 cylinder not firing after replacing the coil and points the
other day and it was because it was shorting to the fuel line. It was
jumping through the insulation, you can probably guess how I figured
that out. I dont know if it could do that from #3 or not but it may be
one thing worth checking.

I would start by verifying the points are opening when the cam comes around to #3.

Does the #3 nipple in the distributor cap have a metal insert in it? No metal, no conductive path would explain the no soot condition you observed. Also, you did not state you swapped plugs to see if the problem follows the plug.
