Flywheel Ring Gear

Folks, I'm replaciing the ring gear on the flywheel of my 52 8N due to damaged teeth. The tractor is at a remote shop at the moment and I will not see it again before Friday.

My replacement ring gear from A & I (Yes, I know) arrived today and the teeth are beveled on neither side.

IIRC, the OEM ring gears have beveled teeth on the starter drive side to facilitate engagement, but, again, I will not again see the tractor to verify for a few days.

I suspect that all of the Chinese made replacement ring gears do not have beveled teeth but am not sure.

Anyone know? If so, anyone know where to get one with beveled teeth?

Dean,
That chamfer isn't a big deal as far as precision goes.
I would take an angle grinder with a sanding disc on it and chamfer it myself.
You'll get it plenty close enough for the bendix to function properly.
Then put a wire wheel on and knock any burrs and feathers off the teeth where you ground it.

I posted some photos of the CNH Ring Gear I put on my Ford 640 earlier this year, thought it might be a good reference for the N forum as well. CNH part number 9N6384, purchased at the local dealer for about $61. Hope this is helpful to those who are looking to purchase a replacement ring gear.

Sounds like it, but I'd rather have one as pictured made in Italy than one made in China with straight cut teeth.

I'll order another one from CNH tomorrow.

I found an original Ford 8N Flywheel Ring Gear cleaning out my Grandfathers Barn. I cant find anything like it online and would like to know if anyone has an idea of its value. I know this is a little off target but I found your discussion string after an hour of searching. Its in the Ford box and every where I looked all I found was replicas. Help? Thanks

Welcome to YT. This topic is several months old and many members will not see your post due to them using classic view. If you start a new topic about your ring gear find you will get much more input from the members here. If you can, post some photos of your ring gear. You will need a few more posts to be able to add pictures to your topic and responses, or you can go down to the 'Site Comments' section and ask YTSupport for permission to post photos. I would like to see an original Ford ring gear, and I think others would as well.
