Carburetor numbers

I was wondering why ford made all those numbers TSX 33- 241A /B/C . If they take the same carburetor kit why the different numbers What changed .

They all take the same basic kit. Gaskets. needle seat, needle, throttle shaft seal,
choke shaft seal. Jets and some passageways are different. Actually Ford did not make
them Marvel-Schebler made them. They are all interchangeable. I've had TSX 33s and put
them on all of my tractors from time to time. 1939's thru 1951. Same with 241Bs.
Usually I cannot tell the difference in performance. Remember these things are 70 to
80 years old. The later models may have made a difference when they were new.

Over the years Ford Tractor tweaked them a little, sometimes good sometimes not so good, 241C was about the worst, 241B was the best. All models were then superseded by the 241B. When rebuilding all of them
can and should be rebuilt as a TSX-241B.

Thanks for the information guys sometimes a guy just wonders how stuff is made. I like to read - gotta learn

Good info given so I'll just add this.

The TSX-241 was improved over the prior TSX-33 unit with a new MAIN ADJ NEEDLE that now used a slotted screwdriver tip rather than a knurled ratchet-stop knob. It was
also improved with a new throttle adjustment screw that also now used a slotted screw head making the prior thumbscrew to adjust speed with obsolete. Both, I theorize,
were so the operator wouldn't risk getting burned on the hot manifold reaching in with his bare hand. He could now make adjustments with a screwdriver keeping hands
away.

Ford N-Series Tractor Carburetors:
p/n 9N-9510, Marvel-Schebler TSX-33, used 39-49
p/n 2N-9510, Marvel-Schebler TSX-38, late 42 early 43, Industrial & 2N Warhorse models. Identical to the TSX-33 model except it had the double throw choke
lever.
p/n 8N-9510, Marvel-Schebler TSX-241, used 49 thru s/n 8N-276115, April, 1950.
p/n 8N-9510-A, Marvel-Schebler TSX-241A, used April, 1950 thru s/n 8N-313112, approximately June, 1950.
p/n 8N-9510-B, Marvel-Schebler TSX-241B, used June, 1950 thru early 1952. Added Econo-Jet.
p/n 8N-9510-C, Marvel-Schebler TSX-241C, used thru the end of 8N production, September, 1952. The TSX-241C was a cheaper version of the TSX-241B as it eliminated the
Econo-Jet. The TSX-214C would supersede all other models when serviced.

If not striving for originality, its a moot point as all TISCO carb kits are geared for the TSX-241C, designated for use from 39-52, with the Econo-Jet included so
if you have one, can replace it. The TSX-241 basically updated the hardware from the TSX-33 model to the new style brass Main Jet Adjustment Screw used today, and the
Throttle Adjust Screw was changed to the brass slotted screwdriver type as the old style was a 10-32 Thumbscrew and was changed (I believe) due to guys getting burnt
hands from adjusting with a hot unit. The M/S brass ID TAG should be able to ID the unit by the manufacturing date code stamped on it with the model number as well.
That being said, Ive never run across an ID TAG with the TSX-241-C stamp code. Ive used the TSX-33 and TSX-241 units on my tractors and all have performed just
fine. The only carb kit I buy is the TISCO C546V. It is the complete kit, not the budget priced one which doesn't contain all the parts.

f one has a carb with one or more of these passages not drilled, it would be beyond most to drill them. If the 241B has them & the carb being re-built does not, the probably out of luck re-building to 241B.
We have found M/S carbs without those being drilled.

That's great intel, Tim! Thank you.

I recently rebuilt the carb on my '50 with a front distributor. It has main, idle and economizer jets. Have you any idea which one it is?

Carb-tag1.jpg

All Marvel-Schebler carbs beginning with the 8N in 1949 had a brass Date Code ID Tag riveted to the 'ping-pong paddle' boss on the lower base as you show. The tag was affixed at the Borg-Warner plant when assembled with the model number and date it passed QC Inspection stamped on. Yours shows Model Number TSX-33 and the date code is "1 0" which designates JAN, 1950. FORD N's used the TSX-33 from '39 thru mid-1950, then went to the TSX-241 carb. Earlier M/S TSX-33 (and TSX-38) carbs used the model number on the boss as cast recessed as I show below.
