Hi all,

I was hoping to get some help with
actual parts list and numbers so I can
convert my tractor to power steering.

My understanding is they convert the
manual boxes to use a power steering
orbital valve. Along with a priority
valve, 2 hydraulic cylinders, hoses, and
fittings. I really need help sourcing
parts and numbers. Hope to use the
forums expertise.

I realize Jackson has a kit. Its pricey
but well put together. I dont think I
can use it as I will also be dropping a
V8 into my tractor as well.

This wont be for showing or racing. Im
building it specifically to be small and
powerfull in tight steep places and to
be used as a tractor.

I would be greatful for any help
regarding parts and info for converting
to power steering.

Thanks

The first question is what are you planning on using for the source of fluid power and will it be used for anything else (e.g. loader/remotes)? If using a V8 engine with a dedicated PS pump you don't need a priority flow divider or a lot of the other overhead needed for auxiliary hydraulics. Surplus Center has a good selection of steering valves and cylinders. With a little creative fabrication they will do what you want but dont expect it to be "cheap". I am also sure Roland can handle your V8 project for less than he charges for a conversion using the OEM engine. If you have not already talked with him I suggest you do.

And of course you could go with EPS for a whole lot less.

Don't ask much, eh? ; > ) Here ya go - click on da link below...UNIT consist of all the needed parts, I'd call Jackson and ask them about a V8 but don't see why that would matter. Are you planning on adding PS to your 8N/NAA/800? Might wanna consider getting a 900, 3000, 4000, or 5000...

You would be much better off if you were to buy the componants from a newer model and put them on your tractor. The PS system from a 1955-64 4 cylinder Ford are a direct swap onto your NAA.
I could give you a complete parts list of what you need to swap it over if you need it..
The way I got power steering on my 3000 was I bought another 3000 and swapped the steering. Also "stole" the rear tires off the doner tractor which were much better than mine, then sold the tractor again.
Had very little $ in it when all was said and done.
PS is worth having tho.
I've had power steering on my tractor for 14? years now and would surely cry if I ever had to go back to manual.

PS,
Are you absolutely Certain you want to graft a V8 into your NAA? The pinion bearing carrier is well known to be a weak point on that model and the rear ends for them were only built for 2 years. Rear end parts are harder to find than they are for N, Hundred and Thousand Series Fords.
