After 3 'stop and let sit' the other day it finally started...belched

white smoke for awhile the then cleared up. Temp then was

22 deg... at 0 deg right now. I think I'm giving it too much

choke..smelling gas. It will almost start with the throttle lever

almost shut...Tried different positions of the choke..full back

get the best reaction..kinda chugs a couple of times then stops.

tia for any ideas...

Red1,Be sure you have no gasoline leaks first!Try heating up the intake manifold with a propane torch hot before trying to start. Push clutch petal down and hold it down or block it down before trying to start it.Charge battery fully.also heat lamp on engine block if you have one.

You should have no problem at zero. We start tractors at -20 with no problem. Try
leaving the switch off, throttle 1/4 to 1/3 open, choke pulled all the way shut.
Then hit the starter for 2 compressions. Then open the choke half way & turn the
switch on, hit the starter & it should fire right up & stay running. You may have
to keep the choke on part way until it warms up.

After checking around the carb for gas leaks, I set a little 8" floor

heater right up next to the carb and manifold for about 1/2 hour.

Started up but it took a little while to clear out the

flooding affect. Got the road into the home cleaned off

and around the barn and house...wasn't all that bad.

Thanks for the advice everyone... :D
