I have seen a few people post about having trouble starting
their 8N. Where I live now it is about 15F outside, my N is in a
non heated garage, I have no problem starting, but that is as
far as it goes, I let it warm up for about 5 min, but if you
just try and release the clutch, even just gently, it will stall
and its done like dinner till the next day and we do the same
thing again. The person I bought it off of said he just changed
the trany hydraulic fluid, it looked clean so I never changed
it, maybe I should checked into it more, warmer weather no
problem, ideas or does anyone else have same problem?

RGR,Put a b9ig good heater on it,even a couple heat lamps for 2 or 3 hours may work.Disconnect/disengage the PTO also.

There is a BIG difference in viscosity between the 80/90w oil and UTF at low temps. The UTF works well between -5 to 120 degrees F.

You might want to change it to UTF.

Disengage the PTO and try it, if it doesn't stall take it outside and run it for a while then engage the PTO and see what happens. Probably real thick oil in the trans/rear.

Disengage the PTO before trying to release the clutch and feather the clutch in, dont dump it. Bring it right to the edge of stalling and reapply, do that two or three times, and in my experience this warms it up just enough to knock it off.

You can mitigate this issue by changing to UTF as suggested, if youve been using straight mineral oil, although Ill note my 8N likes the clutch held in for at least 30-90 seconds regardless of what fluid I use when its particularly cold (below 25F or so).
