Playing with an old machine here.
Manual says to use:

"Socony-Vacuum, Vactra Oil, Light or equal"

What is a modern equivalent or what is
recommended.
Thanks

Socony-Vacuum is now known as Mobil Oil. Vactra is a family of circulating oils commonly used in machine tools and still available today:

What is the spplication?

(quoted from post at 10:39:05 11/19/20) I sent you an email.
It's for the open faced spindle bearings on
an old vertical mill.

Vactra is an inexpensive circulating oil that is commonly used for slideways and open gearing on metalworking machines. I think Vactra Light is now sold as Vactra No. 1. Unfortunately MSC and all of the others I found only sell Vactra No. 1 in 5 gallon pails. It is an ISO 32 grade oil and any similar oil in that viscosity grade will work fine. I would suggest Mobil DTE 24 which they do sell in gallons. That is what I use in my machines although I buy it in 5 gallon pails. Bottom line is these oils are intended for single use applications - they run off quickly and are lost so "inexpensive" is their main selling point.

Mobil Velocite 10 is an oil designed for open spindle bearings. I use it on my Bridgeport clone and Wells Index 847 vertical mill. I bought quart bottles of Vactra 2 and Velocite 10 off ebay, where it is available in smaller quantities.
