2N Hydraulic Lift won''t work

Well, I FINALLY got this old 2NRunning. I'm guessing it needs an air filter so it will run without the chock halfway out!! However, I can't seem to get the lift to work. How do I check the hydraulic oil on this thing?? And where do I fill it? Please, Pics are worth a thousand words! According to the operator's manual there's a dipstick for that but not on THIS tractor! Any assistance would be greatly and humble appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

there are two round inspections plates on the tractor. the one on the left has the PTO engagement lever in it. the one on the right normally has a dipstick. in lieu of that, u can try removing either of the lowest bolts on either plate. when it starts pouring out of that hole, it's full.

add fluid slowly. the trans, hydraulics, and rear end all share the same sump. it can take a while to percolate thru, don't be in a hurry and discover it's overfilled. fill point on top of trans by shifter i'm thinking :)

ps: did u have the PTO engaged when u were trying the hydraulics? it has to be on these.

When I look inside witha flashlight, what would I be looking for?

With engine running at Idle.........."DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING" through inspection port when Tractor is running!!!! You shall loose what ever part of your body you place through the Inspection PORT!!

Take note,is HYDRAULIC PUMP rotating / turning???? Is PTO shaft TURNING???

IF NOT to the above, then possibly Item # 7 IS NOT Engauged with Item # 8...

Thanks for all the info, guys. I did have the forethought to purchase a shop manual and an owners manual from this site. The shop manual was not nearly as useful for what I'm doing as the owners manual!! I don't have the luxury of an indoor shop or a chain hoist for servicing as it seems a lot of you do. But, having really been in the dark on "tractor mechaniking", you guys have bright points of light in that dark. For that I thank you. I will post again when I find the issue. When I need assistance, I'm not shy. I know my limitations!

Your welcome..........
be sure,"the bright points of light in that dark" are not that of an AMTRACK, VIARAIL or Greyhound Bus......LOL
