That works on 8ns..as in installing a 12 volt conversion kit..He just

got back to me and said the guy he knew said to buy a kit on YT

and install it myself...a 2 hour job...so..

Are there good instructions here on how to do this..tia...

The kit here on YT works well. Do not use the additional resistor. Does your 8N have a front mount or side mount distributor?

I did a front mount 9N. Worked great. Used a 12 volt coil - no need for the extra resistor they give you.

Nothing really, that I know of. It's just I've heard the 12 volt

batteries are cheaper...more reliable...Better starting..

I'm not against you doing what ever you want with your tractor.
But I just want to add....
We have lots and lots of farm equipment, company trucks, pickups, and newer cars.
NOTHING comes even close to starting as fast as our 6 volt 2N.
It's amazing. As soon as you barely hear the starter, it pops and runs.
Again; I'm not talking down what ever makes you happy.
Do what you want.

My 9N too. I plow snow winter time.

I only just had to replace the 6V coil and give the distributor a tune up after MANY years. But those were Ford parts, not Chinesium

I converted my front mount 8N to 12V and also changed to electronic ignition several years ago. I couldn't be more pleased. Starts quickly in all weather and runs better than it ever has for me. I would highly
recommend.

I purchased the kit for my 2n from this sight about 3 years ago, no problems. Instructions in kit had wiring diagram and bracket mounting instructions. The hardest part is getting the new belt on the crankshaft pulley.

I have four 8-Ns, all 6 volts, all start when it is time to work. The last battery I purchased was in June of this year, from NAPA. The price was
$75.12, net price was $51.99 to me. Add $9.00 if you do not have a core. I have a farm account with NAPA so no sales tax. I find the life of the 6
volt batterys are comparable to 12 volts. The life of a battery has everything to do with the charging system and keeping it caharged when not in use
for a period time. The battery is the same, actually it has fewer parts to fail, 3 cells versus 6 cells for a 12 volt.....eh?

12 volts or 6 volts both work and it is a free country. Most important is doing the conversion correctly.

Nothing like a 6 volt system when properly maintained..
