9n will not start after running great

Hello,
I am new to this site, but looks like this is the place for help.
I have a 9n that i just got running after it sat for 20yrs. All new electrical parts and wires and fuel system cleaned and rebuilt, was running really good. So i hooked up a finish mower and mowed for bout an hour or so. It stated running a little rough towards the end, so I parked it and it has not started since!
I have good spark and went over the fuel system again, thinking dirt got in somewhere. No luck, dosent even sputter!
Any ideas?
Thank you for any help!

Matt

"I have good spark and went over the fuel system again"

If you remove the plug in the bottom of the carb can you fill a pint jar in two minutes?

See tip 13.

In addition to what Harold asked about fuel flow, does the spark jump 1/4" in open air? Get an old plug, open the gap to 1/4" and see.

Post back w/ results of both tests.

Evening
So i checked the fuel flow by removing the plug on the bottom of the carburetor. Flow seems good filled the pint jar in 1:40, under 2 min as was suggested.
I moved on to the spark test. Opened the gap an old plug to 14", spark would not jump across. Only sparked if I would closed the gap.
Did not notice amp gauge while running.
I do know that the battery is low, struggles to turn over. Battery was new when running good!

I" know it is not helpful, but maybe at least entertaining, but isn't this pretty much the start line of most tractor forum stories? " will not start after running great".

I think you found your problem. Charge the battery, and I'll bet it starts. Then look at the ammeter, it's there for a reason. If it doesn't show a charge, get back to us and tell us what year your 9N is. We need to know if it has a voltage regulator, or a cutout.

one of my favorite things to trouble shoot with is a spray bottle with clean fuel in it. Just cuz you got fuel in the carb, don't mean it's getting THRU the carb to the motor. Have someone spray a small amount into the carb while turning it over.
Of course this is dangerous and not for the newby with no common sense,,,, sounds like you'll be fine

Well....so good news! Once the battery had a full charge she started right up. While running the Amp meter shows no charge, holds on zero. So i am assuming there is a problem with the generator. How do i test that? Not exactly sure on the year, it dose have a voltage regulator and resistor that are new.

Trying to test generator, not making any sense to me. You tube not the greatest on this subject.

Thanks!

I posted a short video demonstrating how to do a simple motoring test on a 6 volt generator without removing it from the tractor. Here is the link to the video:

Generator Motoring Test

Thanks to souNdguy for the step-by-step and to DON TX for suggesting the video idea.

Jimps in GA.

I did the test as the video shows. Wasn't sure which post was the field stud as they were not marked, so i tried the test on both. Nothing happens...generator
dose not turn. I just get a spark each time i touch the the test lead to the terminals on the gen. I guessing that means the gen is shot? It dose turn free by
hand.

I wouldn't assume. Earlier you said
....... All new electrical parts and wires ........

Start by checking your wiring. Make sure you got it right.

it dose have a voltage regulator and resistor that are new

For thorough checking of the generator, bring it to a rebuild shop.

A 9N should not have a voltage regulator. Should have a cut out. If that is not closing, no charge will reach the ammeter or battery.

Resistor has nothing to do with the charging system. That's for the ignition sytem.

i did a little more research and i believe it is actually a 2N. Cant read the serial numbers but it has round radius front arms and dip stick on side cover? How about an electrical system schematic. Then i can make sure all the wiring is correct before i spend money on he generator.

Thanks
