hydraulic gurus? using a FEL pump to power the lift arms?

I have a Jubilee with a vane pump that is not making adequate pressure to lift the arms. I have a FEL pump that runs off the front of the engine. I am thinking of making an adapter to hook into the hard line where it bolts to the vane pump and run hydraulic lines to the FEL valve. Will it work? Thanks Mark

Yes - you can use the FEL pump in place of the OEM engine mounted pump BUT you need to use the tractor sump as the reservoir for the loader pump as follows:
  • [*:a575deb49c]Disconnect and cap or plug both of the hydraulic lines going to the loader reservoir[*:a575deb49c]Connect the loader pump suction port to the 3/4" steel line going to the tractor sump.[*:a575deb49c]Connect the tank return port on the loader valve to the 1/2" steel line going to the 3pt.[/list:eek::a575deb49c]That is how most modern loader tractors are plumbed. I see a couple potential issues with this idea:
    • [*:a575deb49c]If the loader pump is substantially larger than the 4.5 GPM OEM pump you may overwhelm the 3pt control valve and generate enough back pressure to cause erratic control of the 3pt lift[*:a575deb49c]In thje same (pardon the pun) vein you may find the tractor sump is too small to support the input flow requirements of the loader.[*:a575deb49c]Technically your loader valve should be configured with a separate power beyond port for supplying the downstream 3pt valve. Open center valves are not designed to support much more than a few hundred PSI back pressure on the tank return port. Doing so may work but there is a small possibility the valve wont like it.[/list:eek::a575deb49c]You can fix (1) by installing a flow divider in the line from the loader valve to the 3pt and return any excess flow into the sump filler. Number (2) is going to be harder to fix and will require some fancy plumping that will allow you to use the loader resrevoir in tandem with the tractor's sump. A replacement loader valve with power beyond port will fix (3). It will aslo require a separate tank return connection to the tractor sump - filler plug would be my choice for that.

I forgot to mention the tractor pump will now be running without an oil supply. You will need to gut it to prevent the vanes and rotor from self destructing.

I was figuring I would need to use the tractor sump. Was thinking the same as you said about hooking every thing up. Did not think about the GPM and was wonder about the size of the sump. I am going to try it and will post on here how I make out. I was planing on making a plate to cover the pump hole on the engine. Thanks you very much for the info Mark
