Quick Hitch on a 8N?

Thinking of getting one of these,
https://www.harborfreight.com/3-point-quick-hitch-27-3-16-inch-clearance-97214.html

any reason not to use one on an 8N? I'm constantly switching between a disc tiller, a scraper box, and soon a pto chipper, and maybe a mower and wrestling the floating arms and top link into place is a pain.

Brace yourself - you have just opened a can of very big worms.

For sure, I think one needs a tractor for every piece of equipment you need!

Used ones are cheap cuzz folks did not like them... How about a Pat's

https://forums.yesterdaystractors.c...;postorder=asc&highlight=pats&start=0

I second the Pat's Quick hitches. I have them on my 8N and on my Mf202 and have never had a problem with them. If you do order a set from Pat's, make sure you tell them you want the longer pins so you can use stabilizer bars if you want to. Any more questions about them, just ask.

I've heard stories about those one piece quick hitches like the Harbor Freight one not fitting some implements depending on their age. In other words, the implements pins don't fit the quick hitch receivers. No problems like that with Pat's Quick Hitches.

Switching implements is very easy if you have a 2 or 3 pound soft dead blow hammer and a 2 x 4.
Every time I switch implements, I first go to the shop and grab a dead blow hammer and snag a 2 x 4 on the way out to the spot.
Between those 2 tools, you can negotiate ANYTHING onto your 3pt with ease.
No more kicking with your boot or fist banging and foul language.
Try it.

If you still have the old Ford top arm made from two straps bolted together. You need to toss that for a new screw style. That will help 100%.

I have one friend that tried for one summer to use a quick hitch on his 51 8n. It wouldn't work with all his implements. So he had to take it off and on several
times a month. He now leaves it off.

Also, The Ns are already notoriously too light on the front end.
I don't want to add any additional needless weight on the 3pt to make matters worse.
But that's just my $0.02.

With the front loader on mine, that's not a problem

Agree!

Generally I like quick hitch’s. I have them on my bigger tractors. But on an 8N you will add rearward weight & length to where the implements attach. Both will cause the already light front end to be even lighter. Also
you will find that not all 3pt implements are quick hitch ready. You may have to modify several implements to fit The fixed quich hitch. And to retro fit some floating implements like finish mowers May require some out
of the box thinking.

With the problems with a quick hitch that
others others have listed you might
consider another way.
These photos show the flex ends on a lift
arm from a Ford 4000. On these you can
pull a latch and and extend the ball end
out about 4" and raise it up and down
about 4".
They make it a LOT easier to hook up an
implement.
When you get the implement mounted you
just raise your lift arms full up and
they click/lock into place.
These arms would not fit on an N. They
are category II.
But I'll bet you someone - Kubota?
Mahindra? makes these for a category I 3
point.
This is the route I would go.

I have one of those. It worked fairly well on a tractor with live
hydraulics and with implements designed for quick hitch.
On an N without live hydraulics, I didn't bother with it.
To me, it was more work then just hooking up the implement.

Fair enough question Jerry.
With live hydraulics, when I could back up and lift the quick hitch
setting still, it worked pretty well. If I had to back up, hold the
brake, put the transmission in neutral, let the clutch out and then
try to raise the 3 pt, it really didn't seem worth the effort.
Especially if I wasn't lined up perfectly with the implement.
