So, got the ignition switch in and new battery. Time to se what happens. Turned the key hit the starter button and with each push of the button the fan
moves a fraction of an inch. Not feeling good about this. So, what is my next step?

Forgot to add this tractor ran when parked but, that was 8 years ago. And that is all I know about the tractor.

ounds like a dead battery......charge or replace. if 8 years old, itwill be "replace".

I’ll look into to that further. I just assumed it was charged . I just brought it home from tractor supply.

I get the impression the engine is all but stuck. Think the cylinders are all rusted up to where the starter can not turn it. Take the plugs out and put some ATF or PB Blaster in the cylinders and after a couple days see what happens with another tractor and a chain .Easy does it.

Your problem is most likely a bad cable connection or two or three.
They need to be not just clean but clean and shiny. This is a very common problem and it often takes the poster a few times back to get them clean enough to work.

Thanks, I was just reading about that and won if it wasn’t really
seized up. I’ll clean connections and let you know what happens.

I did try turning the fan by hand and the engine doesn’t turn. But, I’m not sure how easily it would.

In automotive barring the engine over means to use a breaker bar and a socket to see if the engine physically spins. Ideally you should meet some resistance, but not enough to make you work hard at it. You can spin it from the front or rear of the crank.

Be careful "barring" the engine over. This could break the piston rings. Take the earlier advice about removing the spark plugs and putting soaking fluid in there and keep checking if and when it frees up. If fan moves a little it may not take much soaking to free it up.
