Non-Pertronix Electronic Ignition

Has anyone used an EI from Precision Spark?
There a little over half the price of Pertronix and the ad says it has a 5 year warranty.
But, a quick Google search did not find a web site or phone number for them.
That makes me wonder about the support. Pertronix really shines on the support side.

Precision Spark

8N and 640 tractors, over years have gone through 4, 2 each pertronixs. back to points now, however both have quit again. just feeling too burned out to diagnose except - no spark. On the 8N I did carefully replace spark plug wires in 1976 in the original loom using copper core wires. now I know that pertronix requires radio suppression wires. I replaced coils on both tractors with 12 volt units recommended on this board. Thinking about buying electronic units again but uncertain about how far I should goin replacing other components, i.e. wires coils resistors? I was led to believe that my current coils do not require original resistors? I'm 75 and getting too old for this ?

i'll second that. Frank (iirc, always been bad with names) is the kind of guy a lot more businesses need in charge of their support staff.

FYI & FWIW: Incorrect/mucked up wiring is 95% of all non-starting issues with Fords, tractors or otherwise, whether 6V/POS GRN or a 12V switch out job. The front mount Ford dizzy is the most mis-understood part on an N. It must be timed and mounted a certain way. There are less than a handful of correct ways to do a 12V system and a thousand incorrect ways. Many shadetree mechanics think they know it all and do 12V conversions by their methods which 9 times out 10 are incorrect and thus end up causing the same, non-starting issues. A that point it is assumed to go to EI as the answer. Now, there's nothing wrong EI but understand all that does is eliminate points in the system. One wrong move and you will fry it. I suggest you get the WIRING PICTOGRAMS by JMOR and know how do a 12V correctly first before investing in yet another EI unit. You may discover you have been doing something wrong all along. Know how the OEM 6V system was designed -your ESSENTIAL MANUALS are you most valuable tools. You want to keep buying and replacing parts with new ones without determining the true root cause problem? Your tractor/your money. We're here to advise. All new parts is not a solution.
