Bought a new ignition switch for the 8n. Has one black wire and one yellow. How do I know which goes where?

oes not matter. Switch ON connects the two wires and switch OFF disconnectes one from the other. Simple, huh?

Unless you have something odd, the electricity doesn't care which way it goes through the switch. So you can put either wire onto the positive side and the other wire to what connects to the coil. It is possible that a prior owner had a non-standard ignition switch so you could have more complexity, so if you have more alternatives just describe it and tell us whether you are 6v or 12v positive or negative ground. You will get plenty of help here.

Thanks a heap. It’s a 48 or 49 8n with 6v positive ground. I just aquifer this tractor and it needs a lot of work. And I’m not a mechanic by nature but! I’m trying to learn. I’m 67 years old and this is my first tractor so you might be bombarded with questions.😀

".....and tell us whether you are 6v or 12v positive or negative ground." Jim may care, but the switch does not care.
