Are 9n and 8n hydraulic pumps interchangeable?

(quoted from post at 10:10:04 08/21/20) Will a 9N hydraulic pump work in a 1948 8N?
have not done that, but believe it can be done, but.....you will need both pump & top cover with all the linkage, because the control valving & mechanisms are different. A big factor will be your loss of Position Control, which the 8N has & the 9N does not. Definitely a step backwards.

NO, the 9N pump is different than the 8N pump -two different animals. 9N-600, pump assembly, used 39-47 on 9N & 2N models. P/N 8N-600,used 48-52 on all 8N models. Get out your ESSENTIAL MANUALS and use for reference.

Don't know if this will help you but when I purchased my 8N it had what I believe to be a 9N or 2N top cover on it. It does not have the little "flush" handle under your right butt like the 8N has. The casting does not even have a place for the handle on it.

So I assume it's a 9N or 2N cover. The thing is that i have position control. It's in position control mode all the time, I can't switch to draft mode. I don't run anything like a plow so I don't care.

aving Position control, lift position variability throughout ~ 80 percent of touch control lever, would mean that you do not have 9N/2N pump. PO has likely installed 8N control linkage and pump under the 9N/2N top cover.

Yes, I've had the cover off. It has the single control rod in it. It is an 8N so I'm pretty sure it has an 8N pump in it. I figure that in the past someone needed to replace the top cover and used whatever he could get his hands on.
