connect old tachometer to front mount

I have an old analog tachometer that I wish to use to adjust my new carb on my 1948 8N front mount.

I am not sure how to do it. The instructions say to attach the Black cable to ground...I assume in this case inasmuch as the tractor has positive ground, I need to attach the Red lead to ground.

The instructions further state that I need to attach the Red lead [b:1909659349]to the negative side of the coil[/b:1909659349]. [i:1909659349] However, my front mount coil (square can), does not have a [b:1909659349]negative[/b:1909659349] or a [b:1909659349]positive[/b:1909659349] pole as the only cars used to have...just one lead going to the top of the coil.[/i:1909659349][i:1909659349]

So, how should I attach the lead to the coil, or even if I can?[/i:1909659349]

have accessed the points side of front mount coil by wrapping small (22Ga to 24Ga ) wire around pig tail and snaking it out the interface between coil and gasket.

ahermit,Like Jmor said,or you could remove the distributor and drill a hole in the side and put a insulated screw through the hole with a wire hooked to the screw and to the screw at the points. Then it will always be there when needed to connect the tach.

Way too involved...I deceided to go this route instead: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-RP...RK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I bought one of those it didn't get along with my copper core wires.

"...didn't get along with..." Does not tell me much. What was the specific problem?

Some kind of electronic interference it worked fine on anything else I put it on. I hope it works for you if not it didn't cost much to try.
