Today noticed that one of my front wheels had a little play in it. Decided to take off the dust cover and give it a little tweek, when removed I could not believe the amount of grease inside the spindle, you couldn't put anymore in it, YOU DON'T need all that grease, will someone please explain the proper way to grease bearings, I'm a newbie here and might listen to someone else who has been around these things longer than I have, no wonder grease or dust seals are poppin and leaking grease all over.

Put a gob of grease in the palm of your hand. Press the bearing in it......repeat. A lot.

Smear grease on the races.

Install the bearings.

If you want prevent greasy hands, buy a $5 plastic bearing packer for your compressor.

As you figured out.....do NOT fill the hub w/ grease.

My 9n has a grease zerk on the front hub and the Ford/Ferguson manual says to pump a few squirts every 20 hours. The seal on the inner side of the hub is a dust seal.not grease. 8ns,2ns and later 9ns don't have them. Don't quote me on that,as oil and grease posts start a long controversy.

I ran into that with my first 9N. Researching it found the "Grease seals" were not "Grease seals" and only Dust seals. The lube was designed to keep the dust out, Not the grease in. I suppose if your machine is a trailer queen, you might not appreciate grease coming out.
