8n Sherman cable

Hi all , just got my first 8n , a good runner original sheet metal etc , far as I can tell all original except the 12 volt conversion. It appears the Sherman actuator cable is of course frozen up , trying numerous soaking methods etc to hopefully free it up. The 64 dollar question is can this cable be replaced from the top of the tractor or does the tractor need to be split. I have an extensive mechanical and paint and body background but don't really feel I have the correct "stuff" to split and properly support a split tractor so hoping it can be done from the top, have read somewhere it can be done but figured I better ask the experts !! Thanks in advance Wes :D

If you have a concrete slab,it's not all that bad a job. I built a purpose-built shed [10'x36'] with a slab and beam to hold
about 4,000lb on a chain hoist. Several floor jacks help to align everything when you bolt the pieces back together. I'm not
sure about your auxiliary transmission as mine is an over-under and yours is different type.

blue1200s,Yes the cable can be replaced by removing the steering bon on a 8N and work through the hole on top with out splitting. If it was my tractor instead of buying a replacement cable I would buy a side shift to replace the cable shift from Red Rock mfg. Then cable problems solved.

Awesome that's why I love forums like this usually get a highly qualified answer that makes life much easier !!!! Thanks guys will post when I get her fixed !! Wes
