Dearborn 11-61 Disk

Any thoughts on this Disk for an 8N Ford?

Owner told me it is a 7.5 foot Dearborn 11-61. Needs 6 of the front blades replaced and a gang shaft straightened a little.

To heavy or big for my 8N?

Thoughts on repair cost?

6 discs per gang is quite a bit for an N.
I have a Ford 201 that I use behind a
3000 Ford that has 6 discs /gang. Tractor
knows it's back there for sure in our
rocky, clay-loam soil. That one is more
of a Jubilee/600 size. 800 would walk
with it.
You might pull it in lighter soils but
will Need wheel weights or fluid in your
rears to be effective.
Most of the older Dearborn discs used a
7/8" square axle. New 7/8 discs and
especially the bearings are very hard to
find - if at all.
Bring an 8' 2X6 and a block of wood to
use as a fulcrum. Use it to lift each
gang frame up a couple of inches to check
the condition of all 8 bearings. Look
closely. They can have significant
up/down slop but if they have more than
1/4" they are pretty well worn out.
If you do that the seller will know
you're nobody's fool too.
Where are you located?
I have several used discs with 7/8"
square holes that I'll never need.

The Dearborn Disc Harrow, Model 11-61 was the Series 'D', a 7' unit, and used 24, 16" discs. They were made from 1948 thru 1950 so that would have been the 8N years. I had one once and my 8N could lift it and pull it. The problem is these old Ford/Ferguson-Sherman/Dearborn implements are mostly no longer serviced. You can get wear parts for the Economy Plows but that is about it. Finding discs will be the challenge. 16" discs are available BUT you the centers are not like the originals. Look for the bolt hole pattern and the axle center -is it round or square? If you find new 16" discs with the correct center hole, chances are the bolt hole pattern is off. You could get a shop to drill the pattern for you -but at what cost? I'd do more homework before you buy, unless you picked up cheap already. Some disc harrows used wood bearings. You'd have to get the parts book to look further. WOODEX makes repop wood bearings these days but for the price, well, your call. I have a complete set of NOS 24 disc scrapers I found in a box at an auction years ago and never used them. Does it have the DEARBORN ID Tag? Original color would have been FORD VERMILLION (8N Red). I can get you the MPC (Master Parts Catalog) and the A&O Manual. If you are just doing small garden work or food plots, the disc may work okay as it is.
